For residents of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, who have been sleeping with one eyes, nothing is more cheering than the news of a hardworking and result oriented commander of the Inspector General of Police ( IGP) Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
The new commander who replaces disgraced former commander Abba Kyari is Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Sanusi.
According to police public relations officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the new IRT has “arrested many kidnappers and recovered arms and ammunition, many of which were displayed recently.”
Adejobi said: “Just two days after the launching of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) in abuja, by the IGP, IRT has picked two gun runners and 4 suspected kidnappers who terrorise the FCT and neighbouring communities.
“The operations are still on. Details to come soon, as we intend to brief the media/Nigerians on these developments. We count on your support to do more,” Adejobi said.
However, in spite of all these, kidnappers yesterday penetrated a highly fortified Army Post Service Estate in Kurudu Abuja, whisking away three residents.
Although, the soldiers attached to the estate put up a gallant fight, they could not stop the kidnappers. However, Director Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu said the Army has embarked on a search and rescue operation in the area.
