There is good news for Nigerians especially those who are infirmed as the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) have agreed to suspend a strike ultimatum given to the Federal Government.
Some of the demands contained in the ultimatum include payment of the reviewed Medical Residency Training Fund and the implementation of the new hazard allowance and others.
NARD President, Dr. Godiya Ishaya, confirmed the new development saying the decision was reached after a virtual meeting held by the association.
The president said that the National Executive Council (NEC) members decided to suspend the strike ultimatum because of the of progress made by the Federal Government in meeting some of its demands.
He said: “We have actually suspended the ultimatum. We noted progress being made and the payment of the Medical Residency Training Fund, and most of our members are actually seeing their money. On the issue of the hazard allowance, we have been able to confirm that the Honourable Minister for Finance has approved the payment.
Timeline of Action
It will be recalled that the resident doctors had on July 30, 2022, given a two-week ultimatum to implement the agreement or face indefinite strike. The ultimatum was also extended by another two weeks on August 21 which lapsed on September 5, 2022.
