Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo is still hopeful that a last minute deal will see him winning the confidence of President Muhammadu Buhari to be named as the consensus candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Until the primary of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the camp of Osinbajo had believed that the Vice President would be anointed as the consensus candidate by President Buhari but with the emergence of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, the political game plan seems to have left the VP in the cool.
According to sources, the cabal in Buhari’s camp are worried about Atiku and are determined to field someone with similar status against him in the APC. ” It is very clear that the people around the President are changing their minds about Prof. Osinbajo, they want someone who can match Atiku, money for money and strategy to be announced as consensus. They have toiled with the idea of Jonathan but right now, things seems to be looking up for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,” a source in the Osinbajo camp said.

The source further said there is hope of a deal with the President that would result in Osinbajo being named the consensus candidate ahead of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu
“The Cabal had never fully trusted the VP especially after he was alleged to be sponsoring the EndSars protest and some of the activities he did while the president was away. But they also could not deny that he would have been APC best shot at retaining the presidency. However, we are hopeful that there would be a last minute deal with the President that would still see the VP as the consensus,” the source added.
