The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has promised to give women and youth at least 50 percent of all cabinet positions if voted to replace the ruling All Progressive Congress( APC) in the 2023 general elections.
Giving the assurance yesterday in Abuja, the party Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu said the PDP has always laid emphasis on the importance of women and youth and always given them priority in governance.
Ayu , who was speaking at a meeting by PDP women leaders at the Party’s headquarters said the [party would want to see more women in elective and appointable positions in the future, while also urging the women to fight for their rights.

“When we started this party, we laid more emphasis on women. We will like to see more women in elective and appointable position in future where 50 percent of elected officials would be women.
“But you have to fight for it. I want you to read the history of women struggle in the world, it is the history of women fighting for their rights. Britain produced one of the greatest prime ministers and she was a woman.
“ Many of you who are highly educated should fight for every position including the presidency as it has been proven that women perform better than men when given responsibility, of course there are a few who dont,” Ayu said.
He also asked them to go back to the grassroots and hold similar meetings with the ordinary women while noting with pleasure that unlike other political parties, the PDP women appeared to connect with the grassroots.

Former Senate President, Olusola Saraki who was also at the event urged the women to take charge. “It is time for you to take charge of what is truly yours, we have always won elections because of the support of the women even from the time of my father and when I asked him he said when women have decided on the way to go nothing can stop them.
“Come 2023, we will attain that 50 percent but we must work hard, when you do, women will fill the positions,” Saraki said.
The meeting which was presided over by the national woman leader, Prof. Stella Atoe was organized to galvanise the women across the country for a successful take-over from the APC.
