The All Progressive Congress, APC has postponed its planned National Convention till further notice. This will be a big blow to members looking to clinch one position or the other in the party exco.
Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee announced the postponement on Monday. Some members have blamed the turn of events on the non-challant attitude of President Muhammadu Buhari and the just concluded AU-EU meeting in Belgium which the President had to attend.
APC had scheduled its National Convention for 26th February 2022 before the sudden change, though it had been rumoured. While postponing the national convention indefinitely, the ruling party however, said it would be going for zonal congresses on the 26th March 2022.

The party made its decision known to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in a letter. The leaked letter was signed by the Chairman, Buni, and the Secretary, John Akpanudoedehe, was dated February 21, 2022, and is titled ‘Notice for the conduct of Zonal Congresses’.
It read, “This notice supersedes our earlier notice for national convention referenced APC/NHDQ/INEC/019/22/14 this is predicated on the evaluation of our party Constitution.
“In furtherance to Article 5 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) and compliance with section 12:6 of our Party Constitution we hereby write to notify the Commission of our great party, the All Progressives Congress has scheduled to hold its Zonal Congresses on Saturday, March 26, 2022.
“Kindly arrange for your officials to monitor the exercise accordingly.
“While hoping to receive your cooperation, please accept the assurances of our highest esteem.”
