Weird: See how new theater students were inducted in Rivers

November 19, 2021

By Infactng

Nigerians were shocked when the pictures of the rituals during the induction ceremony of new Theater Arts students of the Rivers State University surfaced online.

The photos showed the new students dressed up in traditional “occultic” wears with face and body painting, local calabashes with fire, marching in unison.

Even though some praised the courage and creativity of the Theater Arts Department, others say the costume is a little too far.

A Facebook user, Deronke Eunice Abebi said the students looked like witches and wizards.

“The induction ceremony (initiation)
for the newly matriculated students of the Theatre Arts Department, Rivers State University…….

“But why does it have to be like this? Why not use some other kind of costumes instead of looking like witches and wizards?”

Victor Emeruwa sees nothing wrong in the attire. ” It shows they are being prepared for the task ahead. I think we need to praise the department for this ingenuity.”
