Officials at the Jos Correctional Centre have a daunting task to find the devil who tempted a 42-year-old man, Jacob Joel into allegedly defiling an 11-year –old girl.
The story gets messier: The victim according to the police is a friend to the defendants daughter who had gone to visit her friend when she was seized, threatened and forcefully raped by her friend’s father, the defendant.
But Jacob having put all the blame on the devil, pleaded not guilty to the crime. But Justice S.P Gang was not having all that, he ordered Jacob to be remanded in prison until December 7, when the matter would be up for hearing again.
Prosecutor, L.P Fombot had grimmer details. She told the court the victim had visited the home of the accused to see her friend, met her absence but was abducted into the bedroom by the accused, where he threatened her with a knife and raped her.
Fombot said that was not the end as the accused allegedly raped his victim on several occasions but luck ran out on him when he took her to a bush and was spotted by the victim’s teacher who raised an alarm.
However, if Jacob is convicted, he could face a maximum term of life in prison for his crimes.
