The afternoon fire that razed the editorial headquarters of Premium Times, Nigeria’s investigative newspaper has left more questions begging for answers even as investigators scrambled to unearth the source of the inferno.
The fire began, according to witnesses around 1:30 pm Friday destroyed property of the newspaper house including computers, printers and personal effects of members of staff.
Mostly affected was the office of the Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Musiliu Mojeed, who had his work tools and personal effects destroyed by the fire.
Staff, witnesses struggled to put out the fire while distress calls were made to the FCT fire department which later showed up.
However, some officials of the fire department already concluded, not through any forensic efforts but by sight that the fire may have been caused by electrical malfunction.
Premium Times has been publishing several corruption exposee on several politically exposed persons including several public servants and government officials in the Pandora Box investigation.
Though there is no hard proof yet, but many analysts believe the incident may not be unconnected with the investigations into the Pandora Box.
It was believed that the office of the Editor was targeted as it may contain incriminating documents yet to be published.
