Nigerian female wrestler and an Olympic gold medal hopeful, Blessing Oborodudu has won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics after she lost 4-1 to Tamyra Mensah-Stock from the USA in the final of the women’s freestyle 68kg match.
Oborodudu has been Africa’s champion for more than 10 years winning gold medals at the African Championships and thus was a favourite for the Olympic Gold medal in Tokyo.
This is coming after Ese Brume also won a bronze medal in the women’s long jump event earlier today.
Oborodudu qualified for the final after defeating Mongolia’s Soronzonboldyn Battsetseg 7-2 in the semi-finals.
She had earlier defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Meerim Zhumanazarova 3-2 in the quarter-finals, after seeing off Azerbaijan’s Elis Manolova in the Round of 16.
