Cattle sellers in Abuja have urged the Federal Capital Territory Administration to setup a machinery that would enable them access interest-free loans.
The Deputy Chairman of Cattle Sellers Association, Karu Abbatoir, Alhaji Balarabe Alhassan told our correspondent in Abuja.
Alhassan said many of them have been doing the business for over 20 years with little or nothing to show for it because they lack the capital needed for the business.
” This is a very important sector of the economy, we are professionals but we don’t have the required capital to do this business. Many of us have not made much out of it because of capital.
” We usually borrow money from high interest banks and individuals and by the time we are done paying the loan back, there is nothing left for us.

” We know there are some schemes that the government has, we need help to access them, we have our business here and we will surely pay back,” he said.
Our correspondent who visited the Karu Abbatoir in Abuja spoke to some of the meat sellers who lamented about the economy but praised the government for facilitating some infrastructure in the market.
Alhassan said: “We thank the FCT administration because when we complained about water, they facilitated it, we also asked for the expansion of the slaughter slab, they are currently doing that too.
” But as you can see the entrance to the market is still very bad, we will keep asking for more especially the loan facilitation.”
Karu abbatoir is one of the few cattle slaughter houses in Abuja which caters for a large section of the metropolis.
