Troops dislodge Boko Haram in Rann and Ajiri as two soldiers die in battle

May 3, 2021

By Infactng

A large number of Boko Haram fighters on May 1,  stormed Rann, the capital of Kala Valve local government area of Borno state, but we’re met with stiff resistance from troops stationed in the town.

The battle which lasted for an hour saw the Nigerian soldiers overpowering the large number of well-armed terroristsWho later withdrew with several gunshot wounds and leaving behind several ammunition.

The Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohamed Yerima in a statement on Monday said the troops fought bravely against the terrorists blocking the attempted take-over of the town.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru had last week renamed the operation in the northeast from Lafia Dole to “Hadin Kai,” in a bid to ensure the operation reflect the realities on the ground.

Yerima told Infactng: “The terrorists in their numbers attempted to disrupt the peace that has been enjoyed by the border town but were met with stiff resistance as the troops in the area took them on a fierce fire fight which lasted about an hour.

“The terrorists withdrew in disarray with a large number of them suffering fatal injuries leaving behind several weapons and ammunition including anti aircraft gun barrel, AK 47 rifle, hand held communication radio and different calibres of ammunition.”

But on the next day, another band of Boko Haram fighters attacked Ajiri town of Konduga LGA of Borno State. The terrorists having reached part of the town initially burnt nine houses and killed some innocent residents before they were engaged by the troops deployed in the area.

It was a demoralized, limping and injured terrorists that retreated into the bush while troops continued on their chase according to Yerima.

Unfortunately, two soldiers also lost their lives in the fight, Yerima said.

Meanwhile, the COAS  has commended the troops for their resilience and determination to keep their areas free of terrorists activities. He further charged them to sustain the renewed vigour in discharging their duties.
