Activist and spokesperson for the pan-Yoruba group Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin is dead. It was reliably gathered that he died from complications arising from Covid-19.
He died this morning at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) after a long battle with diabetes according to close associates.
His wife, also a popular human rights activist, Joe Okei-Odumakin confirmed the incident to The Punch newspaper.
The late Odumakin has had a long battle with diabetes and has confirmed to some journalists weeks ago that he would not be as responsive to enquiries due to his failing health.
It was gathered that he fell critically ill recently when he paid a visit to Osun state governor, Gboyega Oyetola who had to arrange an emergency treatment for him before he departed for Lagos after he was stabilised.
Odumakin has played prominent roles in Nigeria political space for decades. He joined then Presidential candidate in the 2011 elections, General Muhammadu Buhari but fell out with him when he won the 2015 election.
