Are you rich or living beyond your means. Do you like to flaunt your newly acquired property especially on social media? Then this is for you.
The Muhammadu Buhari administration is set to begin lifestyle audit of those perceived to be living beyond their means.
Presidential aide Lauretta Onochie said in a tweet that the administration would give anti corruption agencies the order to go after Nigerians living ostantetious lifestyles while advising them to desist from that.
This is not the first time President Buhari would attempt to audit citizens lifestyle, in 2015, he had muted the idea and suggested setting up a special tribunal to try Nigerians found living beyond their means.
The idea was however shut down by civil society organizations.
Mrs Onochie tweeted: “Lifestyle Audit is now legal in Nigeria. Those who flaunt lifestyles they cannot afford can now be investigated by any of the graft agencies to produce evidence of the sources of their wealth. You can now be called upon to explain how you acquired certain properties.”
However, Nigerians are wary this policy not only infringes on their human rights but may also be used to percecute perceived opposition.
