Scores of female students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization in Mando Area of Kaduna state are currently being held by bandits who invaded their school, early hours of Friday and forcefully removed them from the premises.
The Police Public Relations Officer ASP Mohammed Jalige, who confirmed the incident to the press said the number of students taken hostage is currently unknown but the Police are working with the Nigerian Army to trace the student’s whereabouts.
This may not be the regular abduction for which Nigeria is now well known as eyewitnesses told the BBC that half of the female population was abducted while the boys were left alone. There are fears that the girls may be used for more sinister activities.
But going by what has now become a recurring decimal in Nigeria’s northern states, the bandits are expected to either contact the government or an influential Islamic cleric, Sheik Guma would embark on a “self-sponsored” fact-finding mission to negotiate with the terrorists on behalf of the government.
A large sum of money, is expected to be paid to the terrorists who will in turn use the proceed to procure more arms and move to the next school to abduct more students.
This is the third major abduction of students in 2021. Last month, terrorists abducted students and staff of Government Science Secondary School, Kagara, in Niger state and Government Girls Secondary School Jangebe in Zamfara state.
