Another sad day for Nigeria as gunmen forcefully gained entrance into the school and boarding facilities of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata-Marafa local government area of Zamfara state and abducted over 300 school girls.
A source said the bandits came to the school around 1: am in Hilux vehicles and motorcycles before forcefully abducting the girls. The source said some of the bandits were in uniform and pretended to be security operatives.
“When they came into the school, we thought they were security personnel but to our utmost fear and dismay, they started putting the girls into Hilux vehicles and motorcycles then drove out of the school,” he said.
One of the parents Malam Lawal Jangebe, said, “I nearly fainted when I heard about the abduction of the students including my daughter.”
Also, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Shehu, confirm the incident saying: “We are right now on our way going to the school where the incident happened.”
Nigeria currently is under a systematic and well-coordinated attack from terrorists whom the government had chosen to refer to as bandits. This year alone, over 300 boys were kidnapped from a government boarding school in Kankara , Kastina state.
President Muhammadu Buhari was in his country home in the same state when the incident happened and he did not make any statement or visit the scene until days later. Last week, one student was killed while 27 others were abducted from a government school in Kagara Niger state. The students are still in captivity till now.
There has been several kidnappings, arson, rape and murder of people all over the country but significantly in the northern part of the country. Non-state actors have been negotiating ostensibly on behalf of the government and millions have been paid in ransom to the bandits.
