It was victory for some members of the #ENDSARS movement as a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to unfreeze the bank accounts of 20 #ENDSARS protersters.
The judge Ahmed Mohammed gave the order after the counsel to the CBN and the protesters agreed to settle the case.
Muhammed said: “All processes filed deemed to have been withdrawn in the spirit of reconciliation, the suit is hereby struck out. The order of November 4, 2020, freezing the accounts of the respondents is hereby set aside. An order is made de-freezing the accounts of the respondents immediately.”
The accounts of the protesters were frozen shortly after the October ENDSARS protests which rocked some parts of Nigeria to its very roots. The action by the CBN, seen in many quarters as dictatorial and undemocratic was severely condemned.
One of the banks where eight of the accounts were domiciled, Access bank apologised after a twitter campaign asked young people to close their accounts with the bank.
