The immediate past Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Tukur Yussuf Buratai has said it is only when politicians who are statesmen work with military professionals that Nigeria can surmount the lingering security challenges.
Buratai made this known at the Pulling Out ceremony in his honour Friday at the Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro Abuja.

Buratai was replaced as the COAS on Tuesday by President Muhammadu Buhari after spending 66 months as the Army Chief.
The former COAS said co-operation between statemen in politics and professionals is the “panacea” to solving the security challenges.
He also said he is leaving the Army better than he met it and while there are pockets of activities from Boko Haram, the insurgency has largely been decimated.

“We may be experiencing pockets of attacks here and there but there is no part of Nigeria under the control of terrorists today,” Buratai said.
He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and his men for the honour of serving. He acknowledged the press while admitting a ” few skirmishes” in their relationship.
Buratai was later literally pulled out of the Nigeria Army by his colleagues and men marking his official disengagement with the Military.
