This wasn’t how President Muhammadu Buhari planned to celebrate the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day. At least, that was not the way it was supposed to go.
But there are things that even the president cannot command the police and security agencies to do.
Making pigeons obey his command.
At every AFRD, the president is expected to release some pigeons from a cage and they are expected to fly.
It would be a symbol of peace and tranquility in the country.
But President Buhari has had misfortunes of nor having his pigeons fly immediately after release, usually, they would have to be propped and pushed before they move at all.
But this year’s anniversary and the failure of the pigeons to fly drew out the humourous and creative side of Nigerians as they mocked the president mercilessly.
In a video posted by the Punch Newspaper and Channels Television, the pigeons were seen sticking to the cage and refusing to fly.
It took only moments before pigeons began to trend on Nigerian Twitter with about 48.9k comments.
Some prominent Nigerians also joined in bashing the President.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Femi Fani Kayode said:” Buhari, beware the ides of March. Even the pigeons refused to fly, what type of bad luck does this man have?”
Former Minister, Oby Ezekwesili, said ” The pigeons will at least not be attacked for thier effective civic disobedience.
” They will also not be told by scoundrels of patriotism to relocate just because they pointed out evident facts of bad governance in their country. Thank God for small mercies.”
Social critic, Segun Awosanya also known as Segalink said the opposition party must be held responsible for the failure of the pigeons to fly.
“Opposition party must be held liable for this failure to launch in the spirit of peace. Apologies Mr President, don’t mind them. The pigeons must be investigated and their collaborators smoked out. Nonsense.”

Other Nigerians said the pigeons are aware there’s no peace in the country as the reason for the failure to fly.
Other like a Twitter user @savvyrinu said ” Hoodlums disguised as pigeons.”
