Tragedy struck yesterday in Bama, Borno state as a trooper of the Nigerian Army serving in 202 Battalion of 21 Special Armoured Brigade Bama, went beserk, shot and killed an officer (a Subaltern).
In a statement released by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col Sagir Musa, the incident happened when the soldier approached the officer who was standing infront of the Unit’s Headquarters making a phone call.
According to Musa, the soldier has been arrested and in custody undergoing investigation while the general situation in the unit is calm.
The remains of the deceased officer have also been evacuated to 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital while investigation into the case has since been instituted to determine the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.
While the family of the deceased has already been contacted, the incident raises a lot of questions about how the Nigerian Army leadership has been prosecuting the war against Boko Haram.
