The 12-year-old girl, Halima, though not real name, who was raped by an elementary teacher in Unguwan Fantaro, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna state, sometime in June 2021, has given birth to a baby boy.
Halima’s delivery was confirmed by the Commissioner of Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba.
She used to hawk chin-chin, a popular Nigerian snack in her village, when she was lured by the teacher called Salihu under the guise of buying chin-chin worth N200.
Salihu dragged the girl into the room, covered her mouth and had carnal knowledge of her.
Halima became pregnant three months after the incident and she was placed under the custody of the Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development through the Ummulkhairi Foundation.
Confirming her delivery, Hajiya Hafsat Baba said, “The little girl gave birth to a baby boy three weeks ago, and I am happy the doctors at Barau Dikko Hospital were able to manage her well to give birth on her own, rather than allowing her to go through a caesarean section.
“Though the baby is with us, we just handed her over to her mother on Wednesday. We are, however, not leaving any stone unturned to see that justice prevails and the man who put the little girl in a family way pays for his action.”
The Commissioner also revealed that the culprit had been in custody since the incident was exposed.
